It’s Not Just About the Money

That’s why every month you hit your financial target, you earn 1 extra day of bankable “Bonus Leave” that stacks on top of your annual leave. The Surry Hills HQ spans 480 square metres across a single open-plan floor. It was designed to feel like a place people actually want to spend time in — not a corporate office with fluorescent lights and grey carpet. The office features a full-size pool table, an air hockey table, a golf simulator, a stocked beer and wine fridge, and a kitchen area that doubles as the hub for Friday knock-offs and impromptu celebrations.
Team events are a regular part of life at HBG. Friday afternoons typically wind down with drinks in the office, and bigger milestones get proper recognition — Melbourne Cup day is a highlight, with the full team dressing up, sweepstakes running all morning, and the afternoon given over to celebration. Quarterly incentive trips have included weekends away, team dinners at top restaurants, and activity days for top billers. The annual top-performer reward recognises the consultant who has delivered the most consistent results across the year.
The working week runs four days in the office and one day from home. Hours are a flexible 8am to 5pm. Every consultant receives a new MacBook and iPhone on their first day — no BYOD, no waiting period. HBG-branded utes are available for client meetings and site visits, and a centralised admin, compliance, and marketing team handles the back-office work so consultants can focus on billing.

Commercial Construction
Tier 1 and 2 / Fitout / New Build
Project Managers, Site Managers, Contract Administrators, and Project Engineers on projects valued from $1M to $100M and above. The established client base spans NSW, VIC, and QLD, covering commercial new builds, retail fitouts, and office refurbishments. Common Questions
What is the commission structure?
Commission is uncapped at up to 50% of every dollar you bill, paid monthly. There are no complicated tier structures or thresholds to unlock before you start earning. The exact percentage is aligned to your base salary and experience level, and it is discussed transparently during the interview process. You can also use our public commission calculator to model your earnings before you apply.
How does the 2.7x billing ratio work?
The 2.7x billing ratio is our performance benchmark. It means we expect consultants to bill 2.7 times their total employment cost (base salary plus super plus any other on-costs). For example, if your total package cost is $100K, the expectation is $270K in annual billings. This is a realistic and achievable target — most experienced construction recruiters exceed it comfortably, and those who do earn significant commission above the baseline.
What tech tools do I get?
Every consultant receives a new MacBook and iPhone on day one. Your software stack includes JobAdder (ATS), LinkedIn Recruiter, SEEK and Indeed for job advertising, Lusha and DotCNX for direct contact sourcing, Distil Alert for real-time market monitoring, ChatGPT for assisted drafting, and proprietary LinkedIn automation tools built in-house at HBG. Full training is provided on all platforms during onboarding.
Is there a ramp-up period?
Yes. We understand that it takes time to build pipeline in a new environment. The first three months are treated as a structured ramp-up where expectations are adjusted. You will have access to warm client introductions, existing job orders on your desk, and direct mentorship from the MD and senior consultants. We do not expect you to hit full billing targets from week one — but we do expect activity and effort from day one.
What does a typical day look like?
Most consultants arrive around 8am and spend the first hour reviewing job orders, candidate applications, and market activity. The core of the day is phone-based — sourcing calls, client check-ins, candidate interviews, and business development. Afternoons are typically used for shortlisting, reference checks, and offer negotiations. Days in the office are Monday to Thursday, with Friday as a work-from-home day. Pool table and coffee breaks happen throughout the day — we work hard but it is not a pressure cooker.
Can I work remotely?
We operate a 4-day office, 1-day WFH model. The office days are Monday through Thursday at our Surry Hills HQ (or your local office in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, or Auckland). Friday is a work-from-home day. We believe recruitment is a team sport and the energy of the office is part of what makes HBG different — so fully remote arrangements are not available, but we are flexible within the 4/1 structure.
